I have found that when I add myself to a search I get more results. I have even been asked the question about how to add myself to a search when the result is a Google search. I’m not sure there is a good answer. Most searches will allow you to add your own name, but if you want it to be an authority I strongly recommend you look into adding yourself.
The only downside to adding yourself to a search is that you don’t rank higher in search results if you are not in the top 3 results. I find it to be a very worthwhile feature as it shows to Google that Google is interested in what you have to say. That is always a good thing and will only help your site in the future.

It is really just a data file that Google uses to see which pages you most frequently search for and which pages you most frequently link to.
