For a couple years, I was a freelance photographer doing freelance photography for the newspaper. I was still a regular contributor to the newspaper, but my freelance writing was coming to a halt. I was in the process of starting a new company and everything was going great for the first few months. But then the economy got bad. Financial issues forced me to make the tough decision to shut down for a few months of financial stability.
I was fortunate enough to have a few people who were close with me on the business end of things in order to help me through it. My company was on the verge of having a big hit in the newspaper again, and I was able to pull a few freelance writers in with me to help me get it going again.
We moved production to a new location, and so far I am very happy with the result. I am in the process of finding a new office and have a lot of new ideas in front of me.
While it’s a lot to take in for someone who’s had the business end of things, it’s a lot better than it is for someone who’s had to take the time to find help or do the work themselves. The only reason I would take that level of time in is if I was seriously thinking of quitting the company.

It’s a shame that I have to work the hardest to make a living in Japan. It is because my family has been so very supportive and helped me out so much. In order to live my life, I have to have a lot of patience, and that’s a huge plus. I work so hard, and it’s not about money, it’s about more work.
Ive made my living through my art, but I wanted to try my hand at a real job. Ive put in my time and sweat, and have even gotten a few small pieces of artwork published. It has been so rewarding and I honestly don’t know where I would be without it. Ive always wanted to change my career direction into something that would be more lucrative. When youve done so much for others, it makes it harder to take anything personally.
