“Knowing who the other people are.” This may seem obvious, but when you’re in the business of making people aware of your business, you’re basically looking to set yourself apart from those who aren’t already aware of your brand.

The social media marketer is in the business of making you know who your friends are as well as the other people you interact with. You can see that one of the most important things in business is knowing what youre being given by your followers. So knowing who your followers are, to put it bluntly, means being able to tell them a secret.

The best way to do this is to know what is going on in your industry. And knowing what your target audience is is not only an important way of knowing that youre in the right business, but that youre in the right business at the right time. Most social media marketers will say that it is a difficult skill to master because it requires you to understand what your target audience likes and dislikes and what they expect or doesnt expect you to offer.

Social media is the great equalizer. In the words of the old adage “everyone is a winner”, social media is a great equalizer where you can play by the rules and still gain the most of it. The best social media marketers know this because they have learned to understand what your audience likes and dislikes. A lot of people are just plain sick of hearing you say that you “have to make a better pitch”.

So if you’re a social media marketer, you’re not a complete idiot. You’re a professional social media marketer. You make it your job to know what your audience likes and dislikes so your pitch is going to be the best it can be, not the worst. If you have a bad pitch, your prospects are going to be miserable.

Not to say you should stop making pitches, but you dont want to be in the position of saying, “I want to sell my services.” I know this for a fact because a lot of people with big marketing plans ask me to make a pitch for them. And, if youre trying to sell your services to a bunch of people, you might be better off if you just start pitching the services themselves.

“know the audience” is not pretty. It means your pitch is going to be the best it can be, not the worst, and your prospects are going to be miserable.

I don’t want to be in a position of being the guy who is only pitching things to people who are going to be miserable because they can’t use their services. I want to be a guy who knows who their audience is and can make it better for them. I like the idea of a pitch that is “I’m going to pitch some software service to a bunch of people.

You have to actually know what your prospect’s need is and what they want. If you don’t, they’re going to be miserable. But if you do know, that’s great because you are going to be able to pitch to even more people.
